MSc & Ph.D to PR

In this pathway initially you apply for Study Permit for your program and finally these type of programs help you gain higher points in your Express entry profile. Also, these programs open many Provincial Nomination avenues for the candidate. In few programs applicant gets 600 points under PNP program which helps them getting their PR under Express entry and there are also few other programs offered by few provinces and territories which have their own eligibility criteria for MSc or PhD to PR Program to help candidates to get PR through.

As a sample the programs used by the Ontario are:

  • The Employer Job Offer International Student Stream, for those who have received a job offer in Ontario;
  • The Masters Graduate Stream for those who completed their Masters in the province; and
    The PhD Graduate Stream for international students who received their PhD and plan to live and work in the province
    After graduation from Ph.D you can apply for post-doctoral positions (jobs) or Post-docs fellowships and after one or two year work apply for PR under CEC (Canadian Express class).
  • There is International Post-Graduate category in the BC Provincial Nominee Program at which applicant is eligible to apply for PR directly after graduation. The applicant must have graduated in the last three years with a master’s or doctorate (PhD) degree in the natural, applied or health sciences from designated universities.
    If you choose to immigrate through the Express Entry system, having a Canadian two-year diploma can net you an additional 15 points on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), while a PhD and Masters can give you 30 CRS points.
