What Is the Post Graduate Work Permit in Canada?
The Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) is a program provided by the Canadian government that authorizes international students who have finished a program of study at a designated learning institution in Canada to work in the country for up to three years after graduation. The PGWP is a great opportunity for international students to obtain valuable work experience in Canada and potentially gain permanent residency.
International students must have completed a study program at a recognized Canadian learning institution that lasted at least eight months in order to be eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit. The permit is usually issued for the same length as the student’s study program, up to a maximum of three years.
It is essential for international students to apply for the Post-Graduation Work Permit within 180 days of getting written confirmation of completing their program of study and meeting all graduation requirements. The PGWP permits international students to work in any occupation and alter employers without the need for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
